Aleksandar (Sasha) Jokic is Full Professor of Philosophy at Portland State University. Sasha has been involved with our school since its foundation and with his wife Tiphaine Dickson, who is a French citizen, has taken active role with the school founders in shaping many aspects of what this educational institution has become. Sasha’s contact with French immersion starts at the age of four, at a preschool program sponsored by the French Embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and continued throughout the elementary and high school attending a similar immersion program that combined the curriculum of the French public school, with teachers from France, and requirements of Yugoslav education. After receiving a BA in Philosophy from Belgrade University, he attended graduate school at University of California, Santa Barbara and received a Ph.D in Philosophy of Science from Oxford University and UCSB. Sasha continues to follow advancements in French public education, and in particular the aspects of chronobiology that our school has implemented as can be seen in the structure of the school year calendar, including Immersion Through Culture periods that he helped design with Tiphaine Dickson. As a father of a student, Zoé, of both Pat and Massene who is a McGill University student and is a scholarship recipient, Sasha is motivated by his experience both as a student and a parent to promote the values of French education in imparting the skills necessary for securing admission to the world’s top universities.
